A fun, getting-to-know-you game to play in the first days of a new school year.
To begin this icebreaker activity, spread out a class set of name cards (prepared ahead of time). These cards include the names of every student in the class.
Each Know-That-Name Task Card describes a phonics clue and a type of movement. Read a task card to an individual, who then performs the action given as they find a name to match the phonics clue. Once everyone has found a spot, have each child say the name card they have landed on and wave to that classmate.
This is a great teaching resource to use at the beginning of the school year as it not only helps your students get to know each other, but also gives you some insight into their phonics knowledge.
