Play an exciting game to help your students identify and define words with the prefixes - pre, re, un, and dis.

No More Prefix Worksheets! Let’s Play Instead!

The Prefixes – I Have, Who Has? Game is a fun and exciting way for students to review and practise identifying and defining words with prefixes. Students read statements and determine the word being described.

To play, students are each given a card. The student with the first card begins to play by reading their card aloud. Play passes to the student who has the card containing the answer. Each card links to another, and the game continues until all cards are read and matched.

Through this activity, students will show their ability to read and define words with the prefixes re, un, pre, and dis and enhance listening and speaking skills in the classroom.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to individual student work time, use this Grammar game to enhance learning through guided writing groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by providing access to previous assignments and posters and anchor charts for students to recall past lessons.

Have students complete the activity in small groups or with a small group instructor.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Encourage fast finishers to use the prefix words in their writings or have them make a prefix anchor chart for the class to use.
