Sweet Cupcakes – Interactive Phoneme Segmentation Activity

In this fun cupcake-themed interactive phoneme segmentation activity, students say the picture name, drag and drop the candles onto the cupcake for the number of phonemes in the word. For example, for the word duck, they would then drag three candles over to the cupcake to show the three sounds of d-u-ck. 

The words included have either 2 phonemes, 3 phonemes, or 4 phonemes.

As students continue their learning to read and spell journey, practising segmenting words into phonemes in a variety of ways is crucial. As teachers, we know the importance of repetition and also practicing in a variety of ways.
