Information includes:

The giant weta is one of the largest insects in the world. They weigh more than a mouse or a sparrow and can grow to up to 20cm in length.

The giant weta is an example of island gigantism. This is when an organism on an island evolves to become much larger than related species on the mainland. This is usually because of their isolation and lack of large predators.

Giant wetas are an endangered species. They primarily live on the small islands
off the coast of New Zealand, where they are safer from cats, rats and stoats.
