Learn & Consolidate 4 Parts of Speech

Implement this interactive PowerPoint before your parts of speech lessons or as a daily revision on the correct uses of:

Work your way through each of the 20 parts of speech assessment questions as a class. Students choose the correct answer from an option of four words. When they select the incorrect answer, the PowerPoint will ‘buzz.’ When they choose the right answer, the PowerPoint will ‘chime’ and transition to the answer slide.

How to Get the Most from Our Early Years Grammar PowerPoint

We’ve created two versions of this presentation—one with illustrations and one with photographs. Use the latter version with students who find the illustrations below their age level.

To activate the interactive functions on this PowerPoint, ensure that you have ‘enabled editing’ and are viewing the PowerPoint as a ‘Slide Show’.

Add new slides and create your own class questions and answers using the editable function on the PowerPoint.

Please note that this PowerPoint is a large file and may take several minutes to download.

3 Ways to Extend this Presentation

Solidify your students’ comprehension of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs with these bonus activities for small groups or whole-class learning environments:

👁️‍🗨️ Pre-Lesson Activity

Assign this presentation as independent reading, either at home or before starting the lesson together as a group. Ask students to provide their own examples for each part of speech to assess their understanding.

🤔 Dissect the Sentences

Once students have selected the correct word for the question, review the other three words and decide which part of speech each is. Additionally, practise sentence structure by taking other words out of the sentence to see whether it still makes sense. What do they notice about nouns and verbs compared to adjectives and adverbs?

📝 Be the Teacher

As a post-lesson activity, ask students what they would put on a quiz if they were the teacher. Have your students write their own 5-question quiz using the information in the presentation. Then direct them to swap papers with another student to take the quiz.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

Click the dropdown icon on the Download button to choose between two PowerPoint options of this resource:

  1. Illustrations and text
  2. Photos and text (more appropriate for SES and ESL students)

Use version two with students who may find the illustrations below their age level.
