What are Equivalent Fractions?

Equivalent fractions are fractions that have the same value or represent the same portion of a whole but are written using different numbers. For example, 1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent fractions because they both represent half of a whole. Similarly, 3/4 and 6/8 are equivalent fractions because they both represent three-fourths of a whole.

To find equivalent fractions, you can multiply or divide both the numerator and denominator of a fraction by the same number. This does not change the value of the fraction, but it changes the way it is written. For example, to find an equivalent fraction to 2/3 with a denominator of 12, you can multiply both the numerator and denominator by 4, which gives you 8/12.

If you are looking for a differentiated worksheet to help your students understand equivalent fractions as well as fractions on a number line, you have come to the right place! Teach Starter has developed 2 different worksheets to help your students recognize not only where fractions fall on a number line but also different (equivalent) ways to write each fraction.

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!
