❤️ Start A Conversation

Use these double-sided conversation heart templates for various activities surrounding Valentine’s Day—creative writing assignments, rhyming, syllable counting, alphabetical ordering and more!

To turn this template into greeting cards, students can write a sweet message on the back to share with a classmate, family member or friend.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips

A few other fun ways to use the conversation hearts in your maths, reading and writing groups include:

🔤 Alphabetical Order

Print off only the front side of the conversation hearts on card. Cut them out and have students put them in alphabetical order as a reading center activity.

🌹 Rhyming Words

This is a great reading group activity for students: Print off only the front side of the conversation hearts on card. Cut them out and place them inside a resealable container. Students randomly pull a heart and create a list of rhyming words for the word or phrase that appears on their hearts.

🤟 Patterns

As a maths group activity for students: Print off only the front side of the conversation hearts on card. Cut them out and have students create different patterns (i.e., yellow, pink, green, yellow; the number of letters on each card, etc.). Then let a partner determine the pattern and complete it.

💌 Sentence Writing

Include this activity in your English group rotations: Print off only the front side of the conversation hearts on card. Cut them out and place them inside a resealable container. Students randomly pull hearts and write a silly sentence that includes the word or phrase. For intermediate students, have them write compound or complex sentences using the word or phrase.

🌈 Colours

Print off only the front side of the conversation hearts on card. Cut them out and have your students sort the hearts by colour.
