How to Assign Classroom Jobs
Curious how this all works? Here are some tips from our teacher team on how to assign jobs in the classroom, plus ideas for classroom jobs for students that are age-appropriate.1. Pitch Your Idea and Advertise the Roles
Tell the students you have noticed that there are lots of jobs that need to be done in the classroom to keep it an organised, safe, and effective learning environment. Ask the students to think of other reasons why it is helpful to keep a tidy and organised classroom. Draw out from your discussion that it helps us to look after our belongings so we can easily find the things that we need and focus on our learning.2. Decide on the Duties
Make a class list of classroom jobs that need to be completed. It is a good idea to think of enough jobs to assign one duty per student. Your job list will be unique and vary over the years, but here are a few of our favourites:- Librarian
- Messenger
- Calendar Helper
- Chair Monitor
- Gardening Assistant
- Equipment Helper
- Line Leaders
- Bag Monitor
- Rubbish Monitor
- Technology Helper
- Window/Door Monitor
- Teacher’s Assistant
